Pereslavl Zalessky - Golden Ring Moscow

After Sergiyev Posad, we travelled for about another hour to the town of Pereslavl Zalessky.

Pereslavl Zalessky is a small provincial town of Yaroslav region, located on the halfway from Moscow to Yaroslavl (around 130 km). Pereslavl Zalessky is famous for its many monasteries, old churches, the first boat build by little Peter the Great, and Pleshcheevo Lake.

We first visited a little museum with a large  collection of old kettles, teapots, coffee-pots, sugar-basins, sugar-tongs, and other things absolutely necessary for tea-drinking. Most people who are Russian drink tea, the children at school are also given tea (even the 2 year olds).

The museum-estate “The Little Boat of Peter the Great,” is a unique and scenic Russian museum. Here, at the end of the 17th century, the tsar built his “Funny Fleet”, which represented the founding of the Russian Navy. The only boat that has survived is “The Fortuna.” Made by Peter himself, as local legend has it, has been restored and displayed in a musuem.

We also visited Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral is standing on Cathedral Square. of Pereslavl Zalessky. The Cathedral dates back to XII century and it's the oldest cathedral in town. Behind the Cathedral one could see two more churches, on of which belonged to the former monastery.
