A walk from Gorky Park to Christ Our Saviour Cathedral.

Myself and Cynthia took a walk from Gorky Park to Red Square at the weekend. It was a cold (-24c) but very beautiful day, with not a cloud in the sky. We first started our walk Oktiabrskaya Metro and walked towards Gorky Park.

We visited Gorky Park which is a amusement park in Moscow. It is popular in the summer for concerts and in the winter for ice-skating and ice-sculptures. The park also has kids rides and amusements all year round. The park opened in the late 1920s and is located at Krymsky Val and is situated alongside the Moscow River. It is the park used in the film and novel "Gorky Park".

From Gorky Park, we then walked along the Moscow River.

I must admit I have quite enjoyed January compared to December. Although it is colder, it is also much lighter and I am enjoying the extra hour or so of daylight.

New Tretyakov Gallery

You can spend a day in and around the the new Tretyakov Gallery. It is half way between the Park Cultury and Octoberskya metro stations, and across from Gorky Park. The park has skating in winter and an amusement park in summer.  I liked the Rodchenko photographs and sculptures of ordinary people from the "Soviet Realist" period. The Gallery is set in a free sculpture garden, I decided that it was too cold to visit the Sculpture garden but will try and visit it in a couple of months when it is a bit warmer. All in all, I was impressed with the  New Tretyakov gallery.

Rostov Veliky

Rostov Veliky is one of the oldest towns in the Golden Ring. It is located on the shores of Lake Nero. Rostov Veliky is located about 120 miles from Moscow.

Lake Nero

For a place called Rostov-Veliky, or 'Rostov the Great', this place gives the impression of a sleepy village. Perhaps for this reason, the magnificent Rostov kremlin catches visitors off guard when its silver domes and whitewashed stone walls appear amid the dusty streets.

Below are some lovely photographs take at Rostov Veliky Kremlin
